Na małej wysepce, na oceanie dalekim, dalekim
mieszka mądry biały kot, co się pokłócił z człowiekiem;
mewa mu śpiewa,
a on na słońce poziewa;
morze mu szumi,
a on wszystko rozumie,
i wychodzi co dzień daleko nad wodę, po długim koralowym pomoście, 
patrzeć, wyczekiwać, czy nie jadą, nie płyną, nie lecą nieznajomi, wędrujący goście.

This poem is about a wise cat who did not get along with humans, and retreated to an island.

The Cat

On a little island, in a far off ocean away, away,
lives a wise and snow-white cat, who picked a quarrel with humans;
gulls serenade him,
he suns himself and yawns;
lulled by the ocean,
he understands all,
and he goes out walking each day, each day, upon a coral bridge to the ocean 
watching, waiting for some unknown visitors, who sail, ride, or fly, 
from the east or from the west, wandering.
