Pierwszy wiersz jest o tym jak czasem jest trudno zasnąć. Dwie przyjaciółki, Krzysia i Lalka, lubią układać różne wierszyki. Jest już późno i trzeba iść spać, lecz ich bujna wyobraźnia im na to nie pozwala. 

Przed zaśnięciem

Jakby się dobrze spało,
gdyby tyle kolorowych myśli przez głowę nie wiało:
Lalka jest niedaleko – poznać po hałasie –
ma pelargonię w ręku i wróbelki pasie,
wróble śpiewają, biorą się za ręce!
…A Lalka stoi wesolutka w czerwonej sukience.

Jak by się dobrze spało…

The first poem is about trying to go to sleep. Krzysia and her friend Lalka (who is a doll) like inventing all sorts of rhymes! It’s time for bed, but they both have vivid imaginations, so it’s difficult to fall asleep.  

Before Falling Asleep

Oh, how good sleep would be,
if those whirling, vivid colored thoughts in my head would be quiet:
Lalka is nearby – there is so much noise –
she’s holding a geranium and she feeds the sparrows,
sparrows are singing, they are holding hands!
…And Lalka is happy, she’s so happy in a pretty red dress.

Oh, how good sleep would be…
